There are plenty of methods to protect yourself from a virus outside your home, but do you know the steps to take to protect yourself inside of it?
While the entire world is going back to a typical routine after a few months of quarantine, the measures to protect your health are not supposed to go back to your old ways. We are facing different viruses every day and potentially bringing it home with us. If you don’t know, conserving your home clean and sanitized regularly during a virus pandemic is as critical as keeping your 6 feet apart when social distancing! Insane right?
People may not be aware, but viruses such as Covid-19 and others are expected to live on hard surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel for up to three days. Other places like cardboard boxes for up to 24 hours. Think about that egg basket you brought home from the store?! Not only Covid-19 viruses can stay in your home for days, but other microorganisms can too. So, keep in mind that your house is a sanctuary, and you need to preserve it.
If you start noticing, what are the things that you touch around your house the most? the answer for most people is (e.g., doorknobs, sinks, cabinets, desks, etc.) DO NOT turn a blind eye on these areas; these are surfaces that need disinfection daily because they are extremely touched surfaces.
However, we should not forget about the other parts of the house that should also be checked. But beforehand, we should understand the difference between cleaning and disinfecting.
The practice of cleaning your home according to the CDC is that cleaning refers to the removal of bacteria, dirt, and impurities from surfaces. Disinfecting refers to using chemicals, for example, EPA-registered disinfectants, to kill germs on surfaces. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove bacteria. Still, killing germs on a surface after cleaning can further lower the risk of spreading infection.
Did you know the difference between these?
What are the steps to take to keep your home cleaned and disinfected? You don’t know? We are here to help!
– Clean profoundly touched areas with a mixing solution (Mix 5 tablespoons (one-third cup) of household bleach per gallon of water, or 4 teaspoons per quart of water. Leave cleaners or bleach solutions on surfaces for at least 1 minute for disinfection up to 24 hours.
– If your surfaces are dirty, wash it with soap and warm water before disinfecting them.
The importance of keeping a clean house is beyond essential for your health and the well-being of your loved ones. Children are more exposed to germs than adults and at a higher risk of bacteria and viruses. Protecting them by maintaining a sterol area is necessary. Germs, will always be around, but taking the time or hiring professionals to deal with them, makes a difference in your everyday life.
These times are strange, and mostly we do not know how to protect ourselves from the unusual challenges but do your part and make it safe around you.
